This duology in one volume tells of an ancient curse. The curse was placed on Vreni's grandmother centuries ago and has been passed down through the women in her family, so Vreni has slept and woken at the whim of the curse since her birth over a century ago. To ensure her family's safety, Vreni has been asked by their magical guardians, to join them, and learn the secrets of their magic, and face their family's evil enemies so that she can help them retrieve the last few drops of the sleeping potion from the evil alchemists who created it. If they possess these last drops they can create an antidote that will set Vreni and her family free from the curse. The sleepers are now waking free from the curse, but Vreni is haunted by visions of the old witch-aunt she seen diminished and destroyed by the hand of her own magic. A strange young woman appears in their life and Vreni must once again conjure magic and courage to defend her family from unknown evil.
