The recordings with took place in 1966, the solos in 1978, and with in 1983; there are four cuts in each segment. The music is rewarding in that never stopped growing as a lyric improviser, but the differences in style between the two bassists is a bit jarring. For fans of old who have the earlier session, there is nothing appreciably different in sound and the earlier package was nicer. For those new to the scene, it should be noted that while this is the same recording as its 1996 predecessor under a different title, it is in no way a companion volume to the / recorded in Holland in 1974 and released by . ~ Thom Jurek
