April 1917...Sergeant Robert Green has rejoined General Monash's 3rd Division AIF, at Armentieres in France, where he hopes to resume normal soldiering duties.
However, events beyond the Armentieres sector conspire to see him once again loaned to MI6 for yet another secret mission. A senior MI6 agent has been abducted by a criminal element and held at an unknown location somewhere near the major British training establishment at Etaples. The abductors, led by notorious criminal and deserter Percy Toplis, are demanding a substantial ransom for the agent's return, or they will sell the agent to the Germans. Green's mission is to either rescue the agent, or to ensure he does not fall into enemy hands. Drug trafficking, murder, illegal gambling, betrayal, the threat of mutiny, and unrequited love, provide an almost impenetrable web for Green to negotiate a successful outcome for his mission. If he succeeds, Britain's secrets will be safe. Should he fail, the German's will have a gained a huge advantage.
