It has been over two millennia since the Dragon Wars: ancient struggles that brought mankind to the very brink of extinction, where countless thousands were consumed by the merciless wrath and fire of the Dragons. In the centuries since, nations have risen; wars and plagues have come and gone; and now the Dragon Wars, and the heroes who fought in them, are little more than bedtime stories.
The Archmage, Lumenor the Enlightened, searches desperately through the past to find answers to the dark prophecies of the future. Though called mad by most, he has unknowingly set things in motion that cannot be undone.
The Champion, Thandriel Kingkiller, is heir to a mantle of responsibility he never wanted. He seeks to recover from the trauma of war, but a thirst for vengeance will bring his solace to an abrupt end.
The Shepherd, Ishmir, is a boy crossing into manhood. He has long dreamt of adventure, but even he could never dream of the raging power already inside him.
They are joined by the Bastard, desperate to prove himself more than the nature of his birth; the Princess, who will defy her father to save her nation; the Hunter, a former wizard, seeking to redeem himself for the mistake that cost him his power; and the Traitor, whose lust for power brings him ever-closer to the precipice of madness.
And then there's Valyk the Assassin, with no memory of his past, no thought for his future, and eyes as red as the blood he spills, whose role may be more sinister than anyone could have imagined...
These are the stories, the threads of the great tapestry, who shall weave together the memories of the past, the prophecies of the future, and the mysterious nature of an ancient power called "Incarnum,".
