Take an artistic tour of -Eastern Interior Alaska -historic sites.
Join Fairbanks artist and writer Ray Bonnell in this second book of his Interior Sketches series as he visits additional historic sites scattered across the region. Explore locations like Fannie Quigley's home at Kantishna, Tisha's schoolhouse in Chicken, Doyle's Roadhouse at Gakona, Nome Creek mining remnants, and an Alaska Road Commission shelter cabin on Brushkana Creek.
For over 30 years Ray has tramped the roads and trails of Eastern Interior Alaska, searching out old mining camps, roadhouses, homesteads, villages, and other historic locations. Through his historical essays and detailed pen-&-ink drawings he takes "snapshots in time" of these historic sites before time, development and vandalism can erase them from the landscape.
His first book, Interior Sketches, ramblings around Interior Alaska historic sites, showcases 61 historic sites. In this second book:
61 more sites are featured. Each entry includes a pen-&-ink drawing and essay. Additional Alaska-themed drawings are found throughout the book.
Sites included were selected from Ray's award-winning newspaper column, Sketches of Alaska.
All of the sites are on or near the road system, so you can drive or walk to most of them.
A map of Eastern Interior Alaska showing the general location of sites is included.
