El autor fue catedrático por oposición de la Escuela de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de La Habana y en 1960, exiliado en Estados Unidos, fue profesor de la Universidad de New York hasta su retiro en 1976 como Profesor Eméritus. En Cuba fue fundador y presidente de la Sociedad Cubana de Filosofía. The author was a professor by opposition at the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Havana and in 1960, exiled in the United States, was a professor at the University of New York until his retirement in 1976 as Professor Emeritus. In Cuba he was founder and president of the Cuban Society of Philosophy. This book is a text that explains, in a pedagogical way, the history of philosophy and the philosophical ideas of humanity, a fundamental basis for understanding culture, knowledge and truth. The final chapter of the book is dedicated to studying philosophy in Cuba, with a synthesis of the history of Cubans who have contributed to philosophical thought.
