Johann Gottfried Scheibel held two positions - as pastor at the Elisabeth Church and as a professor of theology at the university - and later became the revival preacher in Breslau in 1830. To him traditional Lutheran teachings and a pietistic way of life were one and the same. His energetic rejection of a merger of the Lutheran and Reformed Churches in Prussia led to the founding of the independent church entitled Old Lutherans. That, in turn, caused considerable limitations to the spread of influence of his written teachings. However, it should not be overlooked that his battle against the merger was only part of his overall struggle against rationalism in theology and church by strict commitment to the authority of the Holy Scriptures. In that sense many of his now otherwise unaccessible teachings remain valid or even enjoy increasing timeliness. This volume unites his most important teachings. German text.
