English summary: The various European literatures have assimilated classical rhetoric diversely according to their native traditions. This transference of the rhetorical concepts determined a critical tradition peculiar to each literature just at the time in which translations and adaptations increased enormously. However, some traditional concepts of literary composition became essential in the narratives that reached readers from all over Europe. This volume consists of two parts: -A systematic compilation of excerpts from treatises on rhetoric, literature and aesthetics in Latin, Spanish, French, English and German belonging to the period 1650-1900. The excerpts correspond to definitions of rhetorical figures organized, on the one hand, according to the reception of the concept in each literature, and, on the other, according to the critique of the classical definition. -An introduction where the evolution of the concepts in each literature is explained to serve as the theoretical and critical framework for prose narratives and the novel. The list of sources appears at the end of the volume. Among relevant names and texts used from the different literatures there stand out, amog others, the 1788 translation of the French Encyclopedia, Arpa and Lopez, Artiga, Barbera and Sanchez, Capmany, Estrada, Gil de Zarate, Giner de los Rios, and Gomez Hermosilla (Spanish); the Encyclopedie, Batteux, Bouhours, Boileau-Despreaux, Du Marsais, and Huet (French); Blair, Campbell, and Coleridge (English); F. Schiller, the Schlegel brothers, and Jean Paul Richter (German). All the excerpts appear in their original language.
