English summary: In 1959, Rolf Dieter Brinkmann begins an apprenticeship as a bookseller in Essen. During this period, he also starts to write poems and stories that get published as compilations or individually. He is an author on the way to finding his calling. Many of the texts discussed in this volume have never been studied from an academic perspective before, while some of them have not even been listed in the relevant Brinkmann bibliographies. Together, they form a part of his work with its own validity, while already foreshadowing the key issues in Brinkmann's later work: his despair about language, feeling lost in a big city and the gap between past and present which no memory can ever close. Presented in this study is a selection of reading, which is both detailed and well researched in terms of cultural history and theory, and which especially illuminates the vivid intertextual dialogue that Brinkmann's early texts maintain with post-war German literature and literary tradition.
