Chaos is rampant in Hollywood on Christmas Eve. LAPD Detective Renée Ballard receives a call a little after midnight: the owner of a repair shop has been mortally wounded during a celebration. She immediately thinks it's related to an unsolved homicide being investigated by Harry Bosch. At the same time, Ballard is on the hunt for a perverse pair of serial rapists. She feels like she is swimming upstream in a police department forever changed by the pandemic and social unrest. While she works with Bosch, the two must constantly look over their shoulders. The criminals they seek are willing to kill to keep their secrets hidden.
