English summary: With his "Grammatik und Chrestomathie des Sabaischen (SILO 4,1 und 4,2)" (Sabaean grammar and chrestomathy), Peter Stein has published a study of this ancient South Arabian language that does not only present the latest grammatical research, but is also intended to support practical language acquisition with the help of carefully selected Sabaean writings. The grammar makes accessible the essential aspects of the language as far as they are recorded in still available sources. The entire corpus of published Sabaean texts including informal inscriptions on wooden cylinders forms the basis for this study. The book is divided into 14 lessons containing a systematic description of Sabaean writing, phonology, morphology and syntax. It also covers historical linguistic and dialectic developments as well as formal aspects of the written recordings. Various quotes from the different text genres are provided as examples, and practical exercises complement each lesson. Due to the addition of detailed directories and an extensive comments section including further discussion and bibliographic references, the book can also be considered as a reference grammar of the Sabaean language.
