Mary Basits Kuhns, who at the ripe old age of 85years, a woman with only a third grade education decided to sit down with a portable typewriter. She wrote, page after page, single spaced, snapshots of her life. Her vignettes begin with her coming to America at 3 years old with her parents and grand-parents. She describes living and growing up in a small coal mining town and working and living in New York City, being a fashion model, having an abusive husband, who ended up in prison, working as a chef in famed hotels, and owning a number of her own restaurants. She dated movie stars and mob bosses. Her pages outline her journey through life as mostly a single mom, raising three children and planting her roots firmly as a loving American who loved God and country. The book is laid out in her exact words as she herself typed them on the paper, with all the imperfections and spelling errors so the reader can read and get an emotional feel of how this elderly person at 85 years was seeing her life in her minds eye as she set it down on paper. This book covers her nearly 100 year journey.
