-Ana Sofía Rodríguez Everaert “This book is a compilation of writings by figures affiliated with one of Mexico’s most important and enduring feminist groups. Inspired by the 1970 protests in the United States, twenty-odd women in Mexico City founded Mujeres en Acción Solidaria (Women Acting in Solidarity). Its first public act, in May 1971, was a protest against the idea of motherhood as the goal for all women. The group split in early 1974, with the largest faction going on to create the Movimiento de Liberación de la Mujer (Women’s Liberation Movement), with the explicit objective of identifying itself with the international feminist movement. [...] Although the texts in this anthology represent the ideas of a specific Mexican feminist organization, they also reflect the history of other women and gender-based groups across Mexico at other moments in time and serve as an entry point to hundreds of experiences. Once forgotten, they have now been revived.” -Ana Sofía Rodríguez Everaert
