I am a 27 year old senior nursing student at Blessing- Rieman College of Nursing in Quincy Illinois and have four children. As I was growing up my mom had Non- Hodgkins Lymphoma. Most days she was not feeling well. It was hard for me to understand what was going on, which stagnated my ability to cope with my mom being gone a lot and trying to understand how she felt. I think that as a child it is important to have things explained to you at a level that you can understand so that you can process change and differences better, not only in that time but for the future as well. After my mom passed away when I was seven, I never really understood what had happened or what was going on. I wanted to know when mom was coming back. I hope that this book can give a little bit of understanding to children and that it might give them hope and better coping skills to help along the way just by simply understanding the concept of the actual physiologic responses that are going on. This book in particular goes over Leukemia and how it can affect someone and the signs and symptoms that could manifest themselves if you have this illness. It also explains treatment options and gives hope to those that may be going through a scary time like this and knowing that with science and research outcomes are becoming better with each day that medical professionals can learn more about each disease process.
