Lydia Harte, a police officer, is faced with a serious dilemma. Her stepfather, a gangster, has died without leaving a living beneficiary to his estate which is worth millions. Since Lydia is his only living relative by adoption, she has a legal right to his estate, but she has no interest in acquiring it. That is, until she begins receiving threatening phone calls strongly suggesting that she transfer her rights to the estate to a person she is convinced is one of her stepfather's business partners. When Lydia begins to investigate who is behind the threats, she discovers the shocking truth about her stepfather's business dealings and becomes the target of a ruthless criminal organization who will resort to anything to get her to comply with its demands. But the one thing the organization didn't count on is the ability of Lydia Harte to strike back.
Meanwhile at work, Lydia and her partner, Dick Hagerty, are facing another problem on the streets. They are trying to catch two convenience store bandits who have a nasty habit of killing people they are robbing and who seem to know what the police are doing to catch them.
