Lazy Saturdays are boring to little boys. When a boy's mother tells him to explore outside to find something to do one Saturday morning, no one expects the exciting adventure and friendship that awaits him. One lazy weekend, a little boy stares at the ceiling with nothing to do. Both of his parents are busy, so he doesn't want to play with toys or pretend by himself. At his mom's suggestion, the boy trounces outside to explore-first spying a tree and then finding its apples. An unusual-looking rock sits under the tree. The boy decides to bring his finds-both
the rock and some apples-home to show his parents. When he returns home, he begs his dad to let him keep the treasures; specifically, the rock. However, his dad informs him that it's not rock-it's an egg. Soon, the boy gets to experience the excitement of an egg hatching into something amazing: a dinosaur. When he feeds his dinosaur friend apples, it changes into other dinosaurs. Bored no more, the boy and his dinosaur friend have turned Lazy Saturdays into magical weekends. Magical Saturday is a great pick for early readers and young children with parents or guardians who can read it to them. They'll enjoy the themes of friendship, exploration, and courage to experience new things.
