American Mail order brides of the West, historically inspired clean and wholesome short story romance.
Yreka, California, 1861. Spring
Inspired by Historical Person
This historically inspired Western romance much-loved series is about empowered women who turn around their hopeless circumstances in this mid-19th-century tale of the old West, with strong faith and discover genuine men and true love.
Annie Mansfield's mother is dying and her last wish is for her daughter to be securely married. Following her mother's prompting, Annie answers an "Object Matrimony" advertisement placed by William Hanson, a businessman in Yreka. Annie's final words to her mother are a promise that she will be married and when William (called Bill) Hanson proposes marriage she quickly accepts and makes plans to leave Columbia, South Carolina for a new future in the West.
Annie is startled to find that Bill is the proprietor of the Yreka Bakery ("for the best bread in town just say it backwards!") and he is expecting her to work alongside him. The only problem is that Annie is the world's worst baker - but how can she tell her new husband? And Yreka is very much a growing mining town, filled with all types of drifters, con men, outlaws, and criminals.
Perhaps life here will not be as idyllic and peaceful as Annie had hoped. Not only that, but Bill is not the handsome, dark-haired man that Annie had been expecting. Bill is polite and cheerful and an excellent storyteller, but somehow Annie had never imagined that her husband would sport red hair and freckles.
Was Annie's hasty decision to move to Yreka and marry Bill the right decision?
Has she put herself in danger by moving to a town inhabited by so many odd characters?
Was Annie really prepared for all the challenges she would face in this burgeoning Wild West town?
Follow Annie's adventures through the streets and surrounds of Yreka as she discovers that the people here really do have hearts of gold and that this land is full of surprises. Join Annie as she meets some extraordinary characters, survives some incredible challenges and finds that the best treasures of all are generally hidden under a very plain covering.
...."a story of hope, fear, romance, suspense and true love."....
While this book is part of a romance series, it can definitely be read as a standalone book.
