Malevolent Karma -(First novel in the Karma Killings trilogy.)
Like moths, dancing around a candle, criss-crossing, wings brushing... being drawn inexorably towards the white heat of death, three boys, born on the same day thousands of miles apart become unwitting pawns in this game of chance that is described as destiny... karma.
Other players in this game include the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher, the ruthless barons controlling the Provisional IRA, and the Basque terrorist organisation ETA, the boys own parents and friends and the myriad of others who impinge on our daily lives.
Set mainly in the 70´s and 80´s, the action for this thriller flows through Ireland, England, the Basque regions of Spain and France and converge upon the beautiful west coast of Scotland where Britaińs Polaris ballistic missile submarines are based.
Doris Day sang... "Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be..." and Robert Burns wrote "The best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agley" (go awry). Do we have the capacity to control our own destiny? Is there some unseen, undetectable element of chance that interferes with the best laid plans of even the most intelligent among us, sometimes beneficial (winning the lottery), sometimes enlightening (bumping into the girl who becomes your wife), or sometimes malicious (the suicide falls on top of you, and he or she gratefully survives).
This is a complex and sometimes brutal tale of love and rejection, of trust and treachery, corruption, violence and manipulation of young naïve innocent boys resulting in a catastrophic disaster for all the players in the game.
