It is midnight in Mexico, 2007. Alfredo Corchado receives a phone call from his main source to inform him that a powerful drug lord is hatching a plan to assassinate him. He soon finds out that they want to kill him because one of his articles in the Dallas Morning News affected the bribes that the drug lords pay to the Mexican police, military, and government officials.
Thus begins the spiraling journey of a man attempting to decipher his country’s complex predicament while fighting to save his own life. Despite traveling a path frought with multiple crossroads, disparities, and extreme violence, Corchado, “infected with the incurable disease of journalism,” does not abandon hope in turbulent times. Now, the the leader of the Z-40, the brutal cartel that pursued him, is in prison, but the story isn’t finished yet…
