Excerpt from Minutes of the Common Council of the City of New York, 1784-1831, Vol. 8: July 6, 1814 to January 27, 1817
It appears from the dates of the two laws that the general tax law passed the Legislature after the passage of the City Tax law and the Collectors argue from this that the general law repeals so far as re lates to their compensation the provisions of the City law.
