Filmmaker Miles Hargrove goes through hours of home movie footage he shot during the 1990s to come up with a narrative surrounding a past trauma that he and his family endured during the time. The focus is on the kidnapping of his journalist father who was out in Colombia doing scientific research when members of a drug cartel picked him up. This kidnap-for-ransom scheme known as "miracle fishing" left his family trying to figure out how to retrieve their father themselves since his employer didn't want to pay for the ransom.
