It was a rainy night on November 5, 1947, when my mother, Ruth, told me that my father rushed her to Salem Hospital because she was in labor with me. Mom said labor was agonizing and long but finally right at 7:07 p.m. I was born to her and my father, Eugene. It had been four years since my sister, Naomi, was born and I was the fourth child of 7 children delivered into the Cheak family. Mom smiled as she told me my father proudly named me Dianna Barbara Cheak, although everyone else called me Diane. However, I noticed whenever my father called me or wanted to get my attention, he called me Dianna and that made me feel like he was calling me "Queen Dianna" to him. I am so blessed that the Lord placed me in the Cheak family where I felt safe, happy and most of all loved. I am so thankful that Mom shared my birth story with me.
Now in my Golden years, memories that I alone have experienced constantly come to mind. I now feel compelled to share with my children, grandchildren, and friends to reveal parts of our family legacy. I realized that If I don't share my stories they will never be told. My journey of faith has blessed me and kept me through the highs and lows of my life. That is why I give all the praise and all the glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
I want to share my experiences with you as my parents shared their faith, struggles, and dreams with me. May my journey help you along the way to obey, serve, and trust our Lord and Savior.
