In this systematic-theological study Florian Schmitz deals with "Discipleship" (1937), which, although one of Dietrich onhoeffer's major works, has been neglected in scholarship. Schmitz interprets "Discipleship" in the context of Bonhoeffer's life and work, allowing the consistency of Bonhoeffer's theology to come to light, contrary to how it has been received in research so far. Furthermore, the manner in which Bonhoeffer uses the given historical situation for concrete theology is highlighted, particularly Bonhoeffer's understanding of the world and the relationship between "Discipleship" and "Ethics". Popular expressions such as "to throw within the spokes of the wheel" also appear in a new light.
