Released after his debut full-length,
Moonstation House Band
, the
"Nothin' No"
single from
David Vandervelde
displays more of the
Marc Bolan
-inspired singer's work. An alternate version of
"Feet of a Liar,"
one that's more organic sounding (which makes sense, as
Vandervelde
utilized the talents of a full band and skipped the vocal processing that dominated the album version), is also included, as are two new songs, the quick instrumental
"Dancing Sea Gulls"
and
"Cute Pretender,"
which drops the backporch
space rock
feel that
explored on
and instead ventures into vaguely
experimental
indie electronica
territory. It's an interesting move, and fits with the rest of the artist's general aesthetic, but it's also pretty clear why it didn't end up on the record, and means
is best for serious
fans only. ~ Marisa Brown
