Brazilian politician Marielle Franco has become a world reference in the fight for human rights, not only for her actions, but also for her brutal murder in 2018. Born in the Complexo da Maré community, one of Rio de Janeiro's largest favelas, Marielle became a sociologist and one of the city's most voted councillors.
