Excerpt from Oregon Walnut: Southern Pacific
The present consumption of the English walnut in the United States is only about pounds - this being only about one-half pound for each person in our great country. Of these nuts, pounds are raised in the United States and during the past few years an average of about pounds has been imported. Of these pounds that are produced in this country, California is producing pounds, Mississippi pounds, Oregon pounds, and all other states pounds. There are at present in the United States bearing English walnut trees, while are still too young to bear. This is according to the United States census of 1910. While Oregon has a very small percentage of bearing walnut trees, it has, nevertheless, about one-fourth of the young trees of the entire United States that have not reached bearing age.
