Out The Mud is an inspirational autobiography written by Jennifer Nichole Kosal and based on true experiences of her dealing with multiple upheavals and the issues in her life stemming from her childhood and passing into her adult life as well.
Choosing to no longer live with her mother, she hopes that things will be different but she couldn't be more wrong. Soon after moving in with her father and stepmother, Jennifer realizes she's unable to form any real connections with her and it drives her to look for love in other places.
The events of her life lead her onto very challenging paths that she navigates all by herself. After she makes a string of bad choices, a lot of her relationships get destroyed, and she serves time in prison, while her reality comes crashing down.
Out The Mud is entirely based on how deep of an impact childhood trauma can have on a person. It preaches young readers about how the road to recovery is not as simple as it looks on the outside. After several rehabs and self-made promises, life can still slip out of your hand. The toxic cycle isn't easy to break and love isn't always enough.
Jennifer's story in Out The Mud breaks stereotypes of what a mother should be like, and touches on taboos such as postpartum depression, drug abuse, suicide, and sexual assault.
We get a glimpse of Jennifer's struggles and watch the determination with which she turns it around.
Out The Mud fills readers with the hope that things can get better if they manifest what they want and are determined to achieve it at any cost.
