Rife with themes of life, death, and rebirth, the album finds lead singer ruminating on the personal and creative growth the band has undergone over the past five years, and especially since the release of 2015's . Notably, longtime drummer/producer announced he was leaving the band after recording . The album therefore represents the end of the / era for , and a symbolic new beginning as the band embarks on a nationwide tour in the wake of its release.
