Carlos Montenegro (Galicia, 1900-Miami, 1981) Cuba. Fue comunista militante y corresponsal en la guerra civil española. Durante su estancia en la cárcel, se dio a conocer como cuentista con El renuevo, recogido en El renuevo y otros cuentos (1929). Ya en libertad, publicó la colección de cuentos Dos barcos (1934). Su mejor obra es la novela Hombres sin mujer (1938), documento duramente realista sobre la tragedia sexual de los presidiarios en Cuba. Al triunfar la revolución de 1959, abandonó la isla, adonde ya no regresó.
