Written and directed by Wes Hurley, this autobiographical coming-of-age dark comedy follows the story of a teenage Potato (Hersh Powers) growing up in Vladivostok in the 1980s. American pop culture is starting to permeate the Russian culture, and Potato is slowly falling in love with Hollywood movies and Hollywood men. Meanwhile, his own mother dreams of being an American and becomes a mail-order bride to one, providing their ticket out of the USSR and into the United States, where they both discover and reinvent their lives.
