Dr. Omid Gohardani is the Vice President and Director of Research of Springs of Dreams Corporation, in Orange County, California, U.S.A. He has previously held the position of a Program Manager for a state-of-the-art European Union program in aerospace engineering where he directed advanced materials research endeavors in aircraft icing and aircraft erosion applications, in collaboration with the renowned Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. In this effort representing the United Kingdom, Dr. Gohardani also coordinated the various aspects of this program in a multinational collaboration between Sweden, France, Spain, and Greece. Dr. Gohardani's research expertise includes aircraft icing, aircraft erosion, particle image velocimetry, planar laser induced fluorescence, paramagnetic fluids, carbon nanotubes, polymeric matrix composites, aerodynamics, and fluid mechanics. In 2017, Dr. Gohardani was the recipient of the Outstanding Engineering Service Award from Orange County Engineering Council (OCEC) in California. In 2016, he was recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Individuals in Orange County, California by The Orange County Register and awarded the Engineer of the Year Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Orange County Section, California, U.S.A. The same year, Dr. Gohardani was bestowed with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives, following a recognition as a Distinguished Citizen by the Mayor of Irvine, California with his name added to the Wall of Recognition at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park in Irvine, California. Dr. Gohardani is a United States Wakonse Teaching Fellow and holder of more than 15 national/international scholarships/awards, and currently, serves as a Council Officer at Large for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) - Orange County Section. In 2008, Dr. Gohardani was bestowed with the title Honorary Citizen of Tucson, Arizona, and subsequently awarded a College Teaching Certificate from the University of Arizona (summa cum laude), following the completion of a distinctive teaching program. Dr. Gohardani holds Ph.D. and M.Phil. degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Cranfield University, United Kingdom, a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona, U.S.A., in addition to a M.Sc. degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden – awarded following a Visiting Scholar Position at the University of Florida, U.S.A. – as well as a B.Sc. degree in Vehicle Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.
Book Description:
The subject of aircraft icing has a major impact on aviation safety. In this book, interdisciplinary topics related to aircraft icing are addressed with a specific emphasis on various types of icing, ice formation, icing terminology used in aeronautical applications, and ice prevention systems. Through a historical overview, designated milestones of aircraft icing research, development of scientific solutions, and improvement of icing detection systems are revisited for the purposes of shedding light on icing physics and related flight applications. This book explores contributions made by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for aircraft icing and investigates a wide range of aircraft icing efforts, including mathematical models of air-droplet two-phase flow and computational methods for droplet impingement, in addition to experimental research in icing wind tunnels. With objectives to expand the core area of aircraft icing to interrelated topics, the erosion terminology is addressed from an aeronautical perspective. Erosion research in the aviation industry and the threat of solid particle erosion damages to aircraft underlines opportunities and challenges to ensure aviation safety. This book is an essential reference book for aircraft icing, the interdisciplinary topics of icing physics, and erosion testing in aeronautical applications.
Target Audience:
Every individual in Aerospace Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Disciplines
