In neighboring Orrenda, eighteen-year-old Marisa is out with her brother on a fishing trip when she becomes lost in the woods. There she crosses paths with Finn, a grim-faced stranger who'd like nothing more than to be left alone.
Impelled by a sense of justice, Finn guides Marisa back to the stream, only to surprise her by asking that she keep his presence a secret. Marisa agrees, but her curiosity is aroused.
