From the PREFACE .
The contents of these pages are the result of a few years of investigation and thought which the author has devoted to a consideration of the relation of natural science and theology. I have attempted to treat the subject in the only way which I think can be satisfactory to both sides. It has been my aim to take into account all the facts of science which have any bearing on the subject; to select those questions which bring science and theology together on common ground; then to show that there is no conflict between the facts of science and anything that is essential in theology.
The author claims for himself no great amount of originality in the treatment of the subject. He has attempted to select the best authorities available, to outline these briefly, to correlate them, and show what they contribute toward the development of the subject.
The authorities are indicated briefly in the foot notes. A complete list of authors and titles may be found in the bibliography at the end of the book.
