As you might gather from the curious name,
the Panoply Academy Glee Club
are quite a unique and interesting band. Take the D.C.
Dischord
style and savvy of
the Nation of Ulysses
and intertwine the funky creativity of
Modest Mouse
, and you might be on the right track. The experimental tracks between songs really stand out -- of the 23 tracks on this album, only ten are actual songs. The other 13 are odd instrumentals, each with a different concept or element, such as rhythmic whispering, television channel-changing feedback, the babble of an infant, atmospheric tones, and so on. Throughout the music, weird sound samples, keyboards, and even a trombone pop up amidst the driving quirky music.
