In response to questions from a group of young people who, out of their love for Gregorian chant, had organized a session near the Abbey of Solesmes and included in their program a study on the spirituality of this chant, Dom Jacques Hourlier gave several lectures included in this book. Based on the results of questions he gave the participants before the session, Dom Hourlier synthesized, in an original manner, the fruit of much study, thanks to his experience of sung prayer in the monastic choir.
The lively flavor of these presentations has been preserved in this book, and in doing so, the tone of the atmosphere of this session, in which every friend of Gregorian chant is thus invited to participate.
