The feelings of abandonment and rejection from a man began early in her life. First with her birth father's disappearance from her life and then through relationships that showered her with abuse more than love. Fortunately, as author Freida Balzan-Rains expresses in her autobiography, Rescued, love that is unconditional doesn't come from an earthly man, but a supernatural one. Freida begins her tale of struggling against low self-esteem and loneliness at a young age, following her parents' bitter divorce.  Her mother tried to fill the vacant role of father for Freida and her sisters with a man who almost immediately created an unsettled and sometimes hostile environment with alcohol and violence.
