Contempo Records
originally released this
Rice & Beans Orchestra
album produced in Puerto Rico by
Pepe Luis Soto
and
Tato Rossi
in 1978. Their sound is a cross between
Van McCoy
's
"Hustle"
MFSB
's Philly orchestrations.
"Disco Dancing"
is quite similar to
"TSOP,"
"Symphonic Salsa"
sounds like
's rendition of
Elton John
"Philadelphia Freedom."
The
"Rice & Beans Theme"
follows the LP's pattern: plenty of flutes and strings. The whole would've fared better had more imagination been applied regarding the basslines -- they seem to have been afterthoughts. ~ Andrew Hamilton
