In Book Four, Mary Magdalene's Ascended Master sponsor, Lady Kwan Yin, escorts her to a great conclave in the legendary city of Shamballa. Then we find her going home with Jesus and their companion, Barata Arabo, riding Bactrian Camels through the desert. They teach and heal on the way and encounter sun-worshipers, merchantmen, and other travelers. Barata is on a quest to find The Book of Life. They join the Magi in Persepolis and detour to Kaspar's school of religious philosophy on an island in Lake Urmia where they share with religious leaders. Barata meets his true love who travels with them in a caravan. They challenge idolatry. (Jesus has a talent for attracting crowds.) A traveling sage warns Jesus of the dangers and futility of venting his frustrations on priests. When they leave Antioch, Maggie and Jesus wave goodbye to their friends and head for Greece. Maggie meets Pallas Athena in Athens and teaches at Delphi on the site of the Oracle. They study the ascension process with Serapis Bey in Egypt where Jesus passes a series of initiations. In the process, he discovers he loves her and tries to make her understand, but she is one-pointed in her dedication to their mission.
