Robert of Arbrissel (c.1045-1116) had humble origins, but went on to become an important reformer, hermit, preacher, rebel and, in some eyes, heretic. This collection of contemporary and slightly later written sources on Robert of Arbrissel, translated from Latin into English, provides an insight into the man, his life and actions, the world in which he preached and how others viewed him. Two Lives are included by Baudri of Dol and Andreas of Fontevraud (the monastery that Robert founded), followed by two highly critical letters addressed to Robert, a letter by him to the Countess of Brittany, as well as various charters that provide background material to Robert's life. A general introduction and afterword are provided by Venarde.
