In August 1939, an English school teacher at a seaside boarding school vanishes without a trace, along with his camera and a cohort of twenty young German girls. As the threat of a Second World War looms in the distance, inspector Thomas Miller (Eddie Izzard) turns his attention away from the tumultuous state of the world to investigate the unusual circumstances surrounding the school teacher's disappearance.
