This is a true story of a girl named Gabriel and her brother Mathew who was raised by a single mother Alice that had multiple mental illnesses. Although all the family members knew no one would help Gabriel or Mathew escaped the daily torment. Mathew was treated as a God but had to watch every day as his sister was tormented and abused. Alice loved going to therapist and seemed to increase her abuse with the more she learned about psychology but Alice was a tormented soul who constantly wished death upon herself. The father Alan made Gabriel feel that it was her responsibility to take care of their Mother. Gabriel and Mathew had lost their childhoods as they had to help Alice who could barely function as she had to repetitively do things over and over again. Alice couldn't leave the house in fear of an appliance being left on so they would pack up the appliances in the car in order to go places. Mathew was often made to pretend that he was the husband while Gabriel was endlessly abused. Together they also cared for their Uncle Michael who was severely autistic and during these days the public was shocked because it was rare to see someone like him. In her younger days Gabriel was able to escape to find joy in school until she entered Middle School where she learned the dark side of society if you are not beautiful and then you can become the victim of abuse by being bullied by administration, teachers and other students. Gabriel had become a target due to the fact that she had back brace, braces, glasses and severe acne. Her passion for reading helped her see the bigger world and to endure the painful reality she lived.
