A young woman walks home through a deserted Brooklyn park one night and ends up brutally raped. This dark, strange drama chronicles the ways in which the traumatized young woman tries to cope. She cannot tell her mother and so moves out and gets an apartment near Harlem. She then begins working at a ramshackle store and tries to put the horror behind her by repressing it all. But it doesn't work. Finding no support from anyone, the girl spirals down into a deep depression and tries to kill herself. She is saved by a kindly garage mechanic who lets her move into his apartment with him. He seems to be just what she needs, and really helps. But one night he drinks too much and tries himself to rape her. She runs away, but a short time later she comes back and asks him to marry her. As the story comes to a close, the woman is seen calling her mother and announcing her pregnancy.
