STARTLING COMICS VOLUME TEN, COLLECTING ISSUES #40-44 IS A WATERSHED POINT WITH THE
SERIES. STARTLING COMICS STARTED PUBLISHING BY NEDOR IN JUNE OF 1940. THE SERIES RAN FOR A TOTAL OF FIFTY-THREE ISSUES AND FOR THE FIRST FORTY ISSUES HAD A FANTASTIC LINE-UP OF MOSTLY SUPERHEROES. THERE WAS CAPTAIN FUTURE, PYROMAN, THE FOUR COMRADES, THE ORACLE AND THE FIGHTING YANK, BUT THAT ASSORTMENT OF CHARACTERS BEGAN TO CHANGE WITH STARTLING COMICS #41. GONE AFTER ISSUE #40 WERE THE ORACLE, THE FOUR COMRADES AND CAPTAIN FUTURE.
REPLACING THESE FEATURES WERE REPORTER FRONT PAGE PEGGY AND TROUBLE-SHOOTER
FEATURING PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR GALAHAD GRANT. BY ISSUE #44 THE ONLY SUPERHERO LEFT WAS THE FIGHTING YANK, AS PYROMAN WAS REPLACED BY A NEW SCIENCE FICTION FEATURE, LANCE LEWIS--SPACE DETECTIVE. THE TEEN HUMOR SERIES JEFFERSON JONES WAS ALSO ADDED TO THE ROSTER.
THE STARTLING COMICS SERIES BECAME VERY DIFFERENT BUT WAS STILL SO EXCITING IT REMAINED STARTLING!
THIS VOLUME IS AVAILABLE IN HARD COVER AND TRADE PAPERBACK VOLUMES AS WELL AS IN BOTH FULL COLOR AND BLACK & WHITE EDITIONS
