Photographer Stephen Wilkes is one of America's most iconic photographers, widely recognized for his fine art, editorial and commercial work. Day to Night, Wilkes's most defining project, began in 2009. These epic cityscapes and landscapes portrayed from a fixed camera angle for up to 30 hours capture fleeting moments of humanity as light passes in front of his lens over the course of a full day. A select group of these images are then seamlessly blended into one photograph, capturing the changing of time within a single frame.Paris is known as the city of lights, magical during the day, and especially at night. Standing on the Pont de la Tournelle bridge, I photographed for over 20 hours, capturing the beautiful Isle Saint Louis along with the eclectic mix of people walking along the river bank of the Seine. But my favorite part of this photograph is the magnificence of Notre Dame a glow at night. This has now become an historic photographic memory because of the tragic fire in April 2019. Thankfully through the generous support from people around the world, and the French government, Notre Dame will be rebuilt, and its brilliance will continue to glow for generations.
