A merchant fleet captain keeps her aging freighter from falling apart even as she manages the drudgery of a long-haul mission through Devils Pyramid.... A new chief petty officer aboard the Navy's newest warship adjusts to supervising young sailors while puzzling at the idiosyncrasies of her new executive officer.... Meanwhile, for sisters Celeste and Taryn Stowe, growing up on a deep space navigational relay station is mostly mundane. Despite their attempts to spice up their lives with the occasional mischievous space walk or practical joke played on a cantankerous crew member, it's still not easy for the girls to lead an interesting life on Stony Point Station. Life changes dramatically for them when a unidentified force launches a vicious and deadly attack on a nearby fleet of ore freighters. Now it's up to the crew of Stony Point Station, along with the girls' father, station commander Marco Stowe, to mount a daring and dangerous mission to rescue the crew of the one surviving freighter as it hurtles out of control towards certain destruction. Taryn and Celeste find themselves facing challenges and thrust into events unlike any they've ever seen, but for which their unique background and upbringing has prepared them. The sisters will play a vital role in the mission to save the lives of twenty people they've never met.
