The Deep Center is a nonprofit organization in Savannah, Georgia. Its goal is to help young people write and share their stories with skill, confidence, and courage. Each year, hundreds of students in Savannah's public middle schools receive fully-funded scholarships to be a part of the Young Author Project, Deep's free after school writing program. Local writers-authors, journalists, and poets-volunteer to lead Deep's writing workshops, and mentor local students (known as DeepKids) through the entire writing process. Deep publishes each DeepKid's best work in a beautiful anthology. The DeepKids in this anthology-Stories from Savannah's Center City Schools-hail from the heart of Savannah's historic downtown. Behind the shops and restaurants that line our historic streets, readers will find the resonant voices of these young poets and storytellers. Since its founding in 2008, Deep has published more than 1,700 stories by local students who've completed the full three-months of workshops.
