Some families are held together by unconditional love. Ours was bonded by never-ending dysfunction.
From my earliest memories as a child, all I knew was turmoil, neglect, and violence inside the home that was supposed to provide me comfort. The foundation of lies and control my mother built our household on started crumbling from the very beginning.
I learned at a young age that I had to find my own way in the world. My path to independence was filled with betrayals from those who were supposed to have my best interests at heart. Time after time, my trust was shattered.
The deeply ingrained patterns of generational trauma and abuse seemed inescapable no matter how far I traveled to find peace. But giving up was not an option. I was determined to break the curses that had destroyed my family.
This is my story of resilence. Of staring down demons, both inside and outside my family. Of finding slivers of joy amidst the darkness. Of discovering my self-worth in spite of being told I was worthless.
