To quote Billy Beane from Moneyball, "How can you not be romantic about baseball?" The game is unique in that it has no time limit and is played by a bunch of individuals comprised in a team sport. For years, baseball has captured the imagination of the American public, only with the explosion of the NFL and more recently the NBA, has Major League Baseball taken a back seat to the abovementioned sports. Maybe if you watch the game on TV, it is played at a slower pace compared to football and basketball. But going to a game in person, is a completely different experience; one you will never forget.
Ironically, most of the injuries occurred off the field versus on the field, which makes this book that more unique. While catching up with my dad over the phone seven or eight years ago, we started discussing what happened to "so and so" player with the funny injury they sustained. One of us blurted out, "a book should be written about these injuries." That started the journey of compiling these injuries. Whether it was falling out of the bathtub, getting bit by spiders in a hotel room, or getting bit by your mother-in-law's dog, or any number of crazy, bizarre injuries, this book tells the players' stories. What the majority of these stories have in common was not only the zany nature in which these injuries occurred, but the fact that these players had to miss ballgames because of their injuries. Guess that is what makes these injuries humorous because it could happen to any one of us.
