This set, presented by disc jockey but actually led by multireedist , slightly predates the Quintet and hints strongly at that chamber jazz group. Comprised of , drummer , trumpeter , pianist , guitarist and bassist -- if one substitutes cellist for and and changes the bassist, the result is the Quintet of 1955. The music is mostly group originals (five by ) and is an excellent example of cool jazz. V.S.O.P. has reissued this worthy recording from the obscure DIG label on CD. ~ Scott Yanow
