In 1999, 28 guests and 8 ranch hands herd 300 head of cattle fifty miles south to winter pastures. As the group moves the herd, a number of strange incidences and setbacks arise and must be dealt with. Upon their return to Cody, Wyoming, one of the drovers is shot. Fourteen years later, a retired detective and a university student team up in an attempt to solve the case which has remained an unsolved cold case. They are able to do this, but there is still the question of whether justice has been served.
